Screensaver attempting to contact the internet -- address 127.0.0.1
Question:
My firewall software tells me the installer or screen saver is attempting to contact the internet, specifically the address 127.0.0.1. Why? Is the activity OK?
Answer:
Flash pings the computer's feedback address - 127.0.0.1 - when it's initializing itself. This address is your computer's network card. It's used for testing and no information actually goes out onto a network.
We've been working with ZoneAlarm and McAffee to improve the message the end user receives. At this time they don't discriminate between this local IP and any other real network addresses.
Norton Internet utilites does enable you to ignore activity on this port.
It is OK to allow your screensaver to access 127.0.0.1.
