Transparent Background (Windows)
Question:
Can I make a screen saver that plays my animation over the user's desktop?
Answer:
True transparency is not possible on Windows NT/2000/XP. However, we are considering adding support for some form of transparency in a future version.
Since NT was introduced, Windows runs screen savers on the "security" desktop - a seperate and protected workspace that parrallels the standard desktop. The security desktop can't see, talk to, or launch processes on the standard desktop and vice versa. Thus a screen saver cannot play semi-transparently over the standard desktop.
There are approximate solutions. We could take a screen shot of the desktop as the saver launches and post it behind the saver's animation. We've been hesistant to use this solution because among other things the task bar clock will be obviously wrong. Would this solution adequate for your project? Please give us your input
